So, what is aluminium potassium sulfate?
Aluminium potassium sulfate, also known as potassium alum or simply alum, is a colorless crystalline compound with a slightly sweet taste. It is commonly used as a food additive, particularly in pickling and baking industries, as a firming agent and a leavening agent. Additionally, it has astringent properties, making it useful in cosmetic products such as aftershave and deodorant. Potassium alum is also used in water purification and as an ingredient in some types of antiperspirants. Despite its widespread use, some health concerns have been raised about the potential toxicity of alum when consumed in large amounts.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
