So, what is aluminium stearate?
Aluminium stearate is a white, odorless powder that is commonly used as an emulsifier and thickening agent in the food industry. It is created by combining stearic acid with aluminium, resulting in a compound that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Due to its ability to stabilize emulsions, aluminium stearate is often used in the production of processed foods, such as bread, cake mixes, and candy. It is also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and plastics. Although considered safe by regulatory agencies, excessive consumption of aluminium stearate may lead to digestive issues in some individuals.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
