So, what is aluminum sulfate?
Aluminum sulfate is a white crystalline powder that is commonly used in the food industry as a leavening agent for baked goods, such as cakes, muffins, and bread. It works by releasing carbon dioxide gas when mixed with a baking soda, which helps the dough or batter rise and become light and fluffy. Apart from its role as a baking ingredient, aluminum sulfate is also used in water treatment, paper manufacturing, and as a coagulant in the production of tofu. However, it should be used in moderation as excessive consumption of aluminum sulfate may have harmful effects on health.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
