So, what is anis d'etoile?
Anis d'etoile, also known as star anise, is a distinctive spice with a potent licorice-like flavor and aroma. Native to southern China and northeast Vietnam, the anise star-shaped fruit is harvested from an evergreen tree and is used in a variety of dishes and beverages worldwide. It is a key ingredient in Chinese five-spice powder and is often used in marinades, soups, stews, and curries. Its essential oil is also used in perfumes, soaps, and dental products. Anis d'etoile is rich in antioxidants and has been used in traditional medicine to treat respiratory and digestive issues.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
