So, what is caramel iii?
Caramel III, also known as ammonia caramel or E150c, is a water-soluble food coloring agent used to impart a rich brown color to food products. It is manufactured by the controlled heat treatment of edible carbohydrates, such as glucose, sucrose, or starch syrups derived from corn, wheat, or sugar beets, in the presence of ammonium compounds. This additive commonly appears in commercial products such as beer, soy sauce, seasonings, gravies, baked goods, and vinegars.
Caramel III is vegan because its production relies entirely on plant and synthetic or mineral resources. The carbohydrates used as the base material come from plant crops, and the ammonium catalysts used to drive the caramelization process are chemically synthesized or mineral-based. Since no animal tissues, dairy derivatives, or animal-derived processing aids are used at any stage of manufacturing, Caramel III contains no animal ingredients.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
