So, what is glycyrrhizin?
Glycyrrhizin is a natural sweetener extracted from the roots of the licorice plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra. It has a unique taste that is 50 times sweeter than sugar and is commonly used as a flavoring agent in food products, such as candies, chocolates, and beverages. Apart from its sweetness, glycyrrhizin also possesses several health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, excessive consumption of this ingredient may lead to adverse effects, such as high blood pressure, edema, and potassium imbalance. Therefore, it's crucial to use it in moderation.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
