So, what is petroleum wax?
Petroleum wax is a byproduct of crude oil refinement, commonly used in the food industry for its ability to create a glossy appearance and prevent moisture loss. It is often added to chocolates, chewing gum, and other confectioneries as a coating agent or texture stabilizer. However, some concerns have been raised about the safety of consuming petroleum-derived ingredients, as they may contain trace amounts of potentially harmful chemicals. As such, some consumers prefer to avoid products that use petroleum wax and opt for more natural alternatives.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
