So, what is hydrogenated cottonseed oil?
Hydrogenated cottonseed oil is a type of vegetable oil that has undergone a chemical process called hydrogenation, which makes it solid at room temperature. This oil is derived from cottonseed, the seeds of the cotton plant. It is commonly used as an ingredient in processed foods such as baked goods, snack foods, and margarine because it is relatively cheap and has a high smoke point, making it suitable for frying. However, consumption of hydrogenated cottonseed oil has been linked to health issues due to its high levels of trans fats, which can increase the risk of heart disease and other health problems.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
