So, what is kefir?

Kefir is a fermented dairy drink that originated in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia. It is made by adding kefir grains, a combination of bacteria and yeast, to milk, which causes fermentation. The result is a tangy, slightly effervescent beverage that is similar in taste to yogurt but with a thinner consistency. Kefir is rich in probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that promote gut health and aid digestion. It also contains high levels of protein, calcium, and vitamins B12 and K2. Kefir can be enjoyed on its own, added to smoothies, or used as a substitute for milk in baking recipes.
