So, what is lecithine de soja e322?
"Lecithine de soja e322" is the French term for soy lecithin, an additive classified under the European food additive code E322 for lecithins. This substance is a mixture of naturally occurring phospholipids extracted from raw soybeans during the manufacturing of soybean oil. The production process involves separating the gum from crude soybean oil through water degumming, followed by drying and chemical or mechanical refining. Food manufacturers frequently use it as an emulsifier and releasing agent in items such as chocolate, baked goods, margarine, confectionery, instant drink mixes, and processed spreads to keep fats and liquids smoothly combined.
This ingredient is vegan because it comes directly from a plant source. While general lecithin marked only as E322 can sometimes originate from animal sources such as egg yolks, the label specification of "soja" clearly identifies soybean as the sole starting material. Because the raw input is entirely botanical and the standard extraction methods do not require animal-derived processing aids, the final ingredient contains no animal substances and is completely suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
