So, what is mono sodium hydrogen sulfate?

Mono sodium hydrogen sulfate is a food ingredient commonly used as an acidulant, preservative, or leavening agent. It is a white crystalline powder that is easily soluble in water and has a sour taste. Mono sodium hydrogen sulfate is often added to baked goods, beverages, and canned foods to enhance their flavor and texture. While it is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), individuals with sulfite sensitivity should avoid consuming products containing this ingredient. Mono sodium hydrogen sulfate is also sometimes referred to as sodium bisulfate or sodium acid sulfate.
