So, what is nitrato de sodio?
Nitrato de sodio, also known as sodium nitrate, is a naturally occurring mineral that is commonly used in the food industry as a preservative and color fixative. It is a white, crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a slightly salty taste. Nitrato de sodio is often added to processed meats such as bacon, ham, and hot dogs to extend their shelf life and prevent bacterial growth. In addition, it is used in the production of fertilizers, explosives, and glass. While nitrato de sodio has been deemed safe for consumption in small amounts, excessive intake can have negative health effects such as high blood pressure and kidney damage.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
