So, what is palm kernel fat?
Palm kernel fat is a vegetable fat derived from the kernels of palm fruit. It is a semi-solid fat that is rich in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, making it a popular ingredient in many food products. Palm kernel fat has a high melting point, which makes it an ideal ingredient for use in chocolate and confectionery products as it provides a smooth texture and a glossy appearance. Additionally, it is used in margarine and shortening production, as well as in the manufacturing of soap and other personal care products. However, its widespread use has raised environmental and ethical concerns, as it contributes to deforestation and displacement of local communities in palm oil-producing regions.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
