So, what is pasteurised organic milk?

Pasteurised organic milk is mammalian milk, most commonly from cows, produced under certified organic agricultural standards and heat-treated to destroy harmful microorganisms. It is collected from lactating livestock raised without synthetic fertilizers, synthetic growth hormones, or routine prophylactic antibiotics. To pasteurise the liquid, processors heat it to a specific temperature for a predetermined length of time before rapidly cooling it, which extends product stability and ensures microbiological safety.

This ingredient is commonly found in refrigerated dairy products, including butter, yogurt, cream, and cheese. It is also widely used in packaged goods such as baked breads, pastries, milk chocolates, confections, prepared soups, creamy salad dressings, and meal kits.

Pasteurised organic milk is not vegan because it is an animal-derived product obtained directly from livestock. While the organic label designates specific feed types and land-management practices, it does not change the biological source of the fluid, making any product containing it unsuitable for a vegan diet.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like pasteurised organic milk?

We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
