So, what is quinine?
Quinine is a bitter alkaloid that is derived from the bark of the Cinchona tree, which is native to South America. Historically, quinine has been used as a treatment for malaria, and its antimalarial properties have been well-documented. In addition to its medicinal uses, quinine has also been used as a flavoring agent in tonic water and bitter lemon drinks, where its bitter taste provides a unique and refreshing taste. However, due to its bitter taste, quinine is not commonly used as a culinary ingredient, but its medicinal properties continue to make it an important compound in modern medicine.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
