So, what is sodium bisulfite?
Sodium bisulfite is a food ingredient that is commonly used as a preservative and antioxidant in a variety of foods, including wine, beer, and dried fruits. It is a white, odorless powder that is soluble in water and has a slightly sour taste. Sodium bisulfite works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, yeasts, and molds, which can cause food spoilage. It is also effective at preventing discoloration and oxidation in foods. However, some individuals may be sensitive to sodium bisulfite and may experience allergic reactions, so it should be used with caution.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
