So, what is sodium borate?
Sodium borate, also known as borax or sodium tetraborate, is a white crystalline powder with a slightly alkaline taste. It is commonly used as a laundry detergent booster, insecticide, and fungicide. Sodium borate can also be found in some cosmetic and personal care products such as toothpaste, deodorant, and shampoo. In the food industry, it is occasionally used as a preservative or pH adjuster. While generally considered safe in small quantities, excessive consumption may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. As with all chemicals, it should be handled and stored carefully.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
