So, what is sodium hmethyl p-hydroxybenzoate?
Sodium methyl p-hydroxybenzoate is a synthetic organic compound that acts as a preservative in food products. Also known as sodium methylparaben, it is a water-soluble salt derived from para-hydroxybenzoic acid and methanol. It has antimicrobial properties that help to prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast, and mold, which can cause spoilage and compromise the safety of food. Sodium methyl p-hydroxybenzoate is often used in processed foods, beverages, and cosmetics to extend their shelf life and maintain their quality. However, some studies suggest that prolonged exposure to this ingredient may have negative health effects.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
