So, what is sodium pyrosulfite?
Sodium pyrosulfite is a food ingredient that is commonly used as a preservative and antioxidant. It is a white or yellowish crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a sulfur dioxide-like odor. Sodium pyrosulfite is often added to dried fruits, wine, and beer to prevent spoilage and maintain their color and flavor. However, it can also cause allergic reactions in some individuals and its use in certain foods is regulated. As with any food additive, it should be used in moderation and with caution.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
