So, what is sucre 100% pure canne?
"Sucre 100% pure canne" is a French label term that translates to "100% pure cane sugar" in English. This sweetener comes entirely from the sugar cane plant, a tall perennial grass. To produce it, manufacturers harvest and crush the cane stalks to extract the raw juice, which then undergoes clarification, evaporation, and crystallization to form dry sucrose crystals. It is widely listed on French-language food packaging, including baked goods, fruit preserves, chocolates, beverages, and packaged table sugars.
This ingredient is classified as vegan because it originates strictly from a plant source and contains no animal-derived substances. In European and French sugar refining, the decolorization process relies on mechanical filtration, activated carbon from mineral or plant origins, or ion-exchange resins rather than animal bone char. Because the ingredient is purely botanical in origin and processed without animal byproducts, it fully satisfies vegan requirements.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
