So, what is sucre roux?
Sucre roux, also known as brown sugar, is a type of sugar that is minimally refined, containing molasses that gives it its characteristic brown color and distinct taste. It is commonly used in baking, such as for cookies, cakes, and brownies, as well as in savory dishes like marinades and sauces. Its rich flavor profile adds a depth of sweetness to any recipe, and its coarse texture provides a subtle crunch to baked goods. Sucre roux also has a slightly higher moisture content than granulated sugar, which can keep baked goods moist and chewy.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
