So, what is sulfite ammonia caramel?
Sulfite ammonia caramel is a dark brown food coloring and flavoring ingredient made from heating sugars in the presence of sulfur dioxide and ammonia. It has a bittersweet, burnt taste that can enhance the flavor and appearance of various foods, including baked goods, beverages, sauces, and confectionery products. Sulfite ammonia caramel also provides stability, moisture retention, and texture to these products. However, it may cause allergic reactions in some individuals and is subject to certain restrictions on its use in food products due to safety concerns.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
