So, what is wacholder?
Wacholder, also known as juniper berries, is a pungent and aromatic ingredient commonly used in cooking and spirits production. These small blue-black berries have a sharp, resinous flavor with a hint of citrus and a woody, earthy undertone. They are often used to season game meats, sauerkraut, and pickled vegetables, as well as to flavor gin and other spirits. In addition to their culinary uses, wacholder has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes, with benefits ranging from aiding digestion to promoting healthy skin. This versatile ingredient adds depth and complexity to a wide range of dishes and beverages, making it a favorite among chefs and mixologists alike.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
