So, what is calvados?
Calvados is a type of French apple brandy made from apples grown in the Normandy region. The apples are harvested, crushed, and then fermented into a dry cider before being distilled and aged in oak barrels for at least two years. The resulting spirit is a rich, amber-colored liquid with a complex flavor profile that includes notes of apple, vanilla, caramel, and spice. Calvados is often used in cooking to add depth and complexity to dishes, and it can also be enjoyed as a sipping spirit or in cocktails. Its unique flavor and history make it a beloved ingredient in French cuisine and beyond.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
