So, what is sodium bisulfites?
Sodium bisulfites are a type of food preservative commonly used in the food industry to prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast, and fungi. It is a white crystalline powder that is water-soluble and has a pungent smell. This ingredient is often added to food and beverages such as wine, cider, and fruit juices to prevent oxidation and spoilage, as well as to preserve the color and flavor of the product. Although sodium bisulfites are generally recognized as safe by the FDA, some individuals may be sensitive to this ingredient, and it can cause allergic reactions in some people.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
