So, what is aceite de palma?
Aceite de palma, also known as palm oil, is a type of vegetable oil extracted from the fruit of oil palm trees. It is widely used in the food industry due to its versatile properties, such as high melting point and neutral taste. However, controversy surrounds the production of palm oil as it often involves the destruction of rainforests and habitat loss for endangered species. Some producers have committed to sustainable practices, but it remains a contentious issue. Despite this, palm oil remains a popular ingredient in many processed foods, including baked goods, margarine, and snack foods.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
