So, what is palmolein?
Palmolein is a type of vegetable oil extracted from the mesocarp of oil palm fruit. It is a commonly used ingredient in cooking and food processing due to its high oxidative stability and versatility in various applications. Palmolein is rich in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, making it an excellent source of energy and nutrition. Its neutral flavor and high smoke point make it ideal for deep frying and other high-heat cooking methods. Palmolein is also used in the production of margarine, shortening, and various baked goods. Despite its widespread use, concerns about the environmental impact of oil palm cultivation have led to calls for sustainable sourcing practices.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
