So, what is sodium polymetaphosphate?
Sodium polymetaphosphate is a food-grade ingredient commonly used as a sequestrant, thickening agent, and emulsifier. This versatile ingredient is made up of long chains of sodium metaphosphate molecules and is highly soluble in water. It is often added to processed foods such as canned fruits and vegetables, meats, and seafood to improve their texture, enhance flavor, and extend shelf life. Sodium polymetaphosphate is also used in the manufacturing of dental products, water treatment, and as a dispersing agent in ceramics and textile industries. Its safety has been established by regulatory agencies and it is considered safe for consumption in moderate amounts.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
