So, what is sterol?
Sterols are a group of natural, organic compounds that are essential components of cell membranes in animals and plants. They are characterized by a specific structure, including a hydroxyl group and a rigid, planar steroid ring system. One of the most well-known sterols is cholesterol, which plays a vital role in maintaining the fluidity and stability of cell membranes. Other sterols, such as sitosterol and campesterol, are commonly found in plant-based foods and are known for their potential cholesterol-lowering effects. Sterols are also used as dietary supplements and in the production of certain drugs and cosmetics.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
