So, what is testosterone?
Testosterone is a steroid hormone primarily produced in the testicles of males and the ovaries of females. It is responsible for the development of male sexual characteristics such as a deeper voice, increased muscle mass, and facial hair growth. In addition to its role in sexual development, testosterone also plays a key role in the regulation of bone density, muscle mass, and red blood cell production. Although primarily associated with male biology, testosterone is present in both males and females, albeit in different quantities. In the food industry, testosterone is not commonly used as an ingredient but is sometimes present in animal-based foods, particularly those derived from male animals.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
