So, what is sumac?
Sumac is a tangy and slightly acidic spice that comes from the dried and ground berries of the sumac plant. The spice has a bright red color and a fruity, lemony flavor with a hint of astringency. Used widely in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, sumac is a versatile seasoning that adds a zesty punch to dishes such as kebabs, salads, and dips. Apart from its culinary uses, sumac is also known for its medicinal properties, including its ability to aid digestion, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
