So, what is alkanet?
Alkanet, also known as Anchusa tinctoria, is a plant whose root is commonly used to produce a natural red or purple dye. The plant is native to the Mediterranean region and has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties. In the kitchen, alkanet root powder can be used as a natural food coloring agent and to add earthy, slightly bitter flavor notes to dishes. However, it should be used sparingly as large quantities can have a laxative effect. Alkanet is also used in cosmetics and soap-making due to its natural coloring properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
