So, what is baize?
Baize is a type of fabric typically made from wool, which is traditionally used as a covering for gaming tables. However, it's also the name of a lesser-known food ingredient. Baize is a type of spice made from the dried and ground leaves of the Peruvian pepper tree, also known as the Baiza or Molle tree. The spice has a pungent, slightly sweet, and fruity flavor with a subtle hint of bitterness. Baize is often used to flavor stews, soups, and marinades, as well as meat dishes such as roasted lamb or beef. Due to its unique flavor profile, baize can add depth and complexity to a variety of dishes.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
