So, what is calcium phytate?
Calcium phytate is a natural compound that occurs in plant seeds and grains, particularly in the outer bran layers. It is commonly used as an ingredient in food and dietary supplements because of its ability to bind with minerals like calcium and zinc, making them less available to the body. However, recent research suggests that calcium phytate may have health benefits of its own, such as reducing the risk of certain cancers and improving bone density. While it may reduce mineral absorption in high quantities, small amounts of calcium phytate in the diet may be beneficial for overall health.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
