So, what is huiles hydrogénée?
"Huiles hydrogénée" is a French term for hydrogenated oils, a type of processed fat commonly used in the food industry. Hydrogenation is a process that adds hydrogen to liquid oils to make them solid at room temperature, which improves shelf life and texture in processed foods. However, hydrogenated oils are also known to increase levels of harmful trans fats, which can contribute to heart disease and other health problems. As a result, many health experts recommend limiting intake of hydrogenated oils and choosing healthier alternatives like olive oil or coconut oil instead.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
