So, what is hydrolysed soya protein?
Hydrolysed soya protein is a highly processed food ingredient that is derived from soybeans. It is created by breaking down the protein in soybeans into smaller pieces through a chemical process called hydrolysis. This results in a powder that is high in protein, with a mild taste and a smooth texture. Hydrolysed soya protein is commonly used as a food additive to enhance the protein content of a wide range of products, including meat substitutes, soups, sauces, and snacks. It is also used in some cosmetics and personal care products for its emulsifying and moisturizing properties. Despite being derived from a plant source, hydrolysed soya protein may not be suitable for those with soy allergies or sensitivities.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
