So, what is majsmaltodextrin?
Majsmaltodextrin is a carbohydrate-based food ingredient commonly used as a thickener, filler, or sweetener in a variety of processed foods. It is derived from corn starch and is made up of chains of glucose molecules. With its neutral flavor and low sweetness, majsmaltodextrin is often used to improve the texture of foods like salad dressings, gravies, and sauces, as well as to enhance the mouthfeel of processed snacks and desserts. Due to its fast-digesting nature, it is also sometimes added to sports drinks and other beverages as a quick source of energy. Despite its widespread use, majsmaltodextrin is generally considered safe for consumption in moderation.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
