So, what is caseine?

Casein is a protein found in milk and dairy products, making up about 80% of the protein content in cow's milk. It is commonly used as an ingredient in processed foods, especially cheese and yoghurt, due to its ability to form a strong and elastic gel when coagulated. Casein is also used in the production of dietary supplements and protein powders, popular among athletes and bodybuilders for its slow digestion rate, which provides a sustained release of amino acids into the bloodstream. Additionally, casein has been studied for its potential health benefits, including improved muscle recovery, weight loss, and reduced risk of heart disease.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like caseine?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
