So, what is curcumin e100?
Curcumin (E100) is a yellow-orange food coloring derived primarily from the roots of the turmeric plant. To produce this additive, the rhizomes of Curcuma longa are dried, ground, and extracted with solvents to isolate the concentrated curcuminoid pigments, though it can also be manufactured through chemical synthesis. It is widely utilized across the food industry to provide color to items such as mustard, baked goods, confectionery, seasonings, dairy alternatives, processed snacks, and beverages.
Curcumin E100 is vegan because it originates exclusively from plant or synthetic sources. The extraction and purification processes rely on botanical materials and standard chemical solvents rather than animal tissues, bones, or animal-derived processing aids. Because animal inputs are not part of its cultivation, extraction, or synthesis, this ingredient is fully compatible with a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
