So, what is olio di palma?
Olio di palma, or palm oil, is a widely used vegetable oil that is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm tree. With its distinct bright orange-red color, this versatile ingredient is commonly used in cooking, baking, and frying, as well as in the production of a wide range of food products, from margarine and chocolate to instant noodles and ice cream. Palm oil has a neutral taste and a high smoke point, making it a popular choice for high-temperature cooking methods. However, it is also a highly controversial ingredient, as its cultivation has been linked to deforestation, habitat destruction, and human rights abuses in certain parts of the world.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
