So, what is amande amere?
Amande amere, also known as bitter almond, is a type of almond that is native to the Mediterranean region. Unlike the sweet almond, bitter almond contains a small amount of cyanide, which gives it a distinct, sharp taste. This makes it a popular flavoring agent in many traditional dishes, such as marzipan, amaretto liqueur, and French macarons. Bitter almond oil is also commonly used in cosmetic and skincare products due to its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. However, it should be noted that bitter almond should not be consumed in large quantities, as it can be toxic.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
